I heard in commentary him being compared to a young Wilfred Benitez or a young Pernell Whittaker and even Floyd, i myself would probably compare him to a young Naseem Hamed at the moment he looks brilliant offensively but he has to sort out his defence. Anyone else got any comparisons.

  1. Wow! Who said he is like a young Benitez, Mayweather Jr., or Whitaker? His defense was exposed by a fighter who was rusty, but a decent contender. His camp needs to work on his defense and get rid of that cockyness or the next knockdown he suffers and not come up from will be from someone with real power like Valero, who they are trying to match him up with after his June 27th fight.

I got to give Woody props! I agree with what he said about Gamboa being like a young Shane Mosley. I was about to say that myself. He could be a young Zab Judah as well. You know Judah lacks defensive abilities as well.

  2. Someone needs to be smacked with a shovel for comparing him to any version of Pernell Whitaker or Mayweather. Gamboa's defense is not even on those two guys level at their early stage of their career.

I think he reminds me more like a young Shane Mosley, just a little more aggresive.

  3. He reminds me of someone who will get popped on his can several times before getting knocked out if he fights a good counter-puncher.

  4. Yeah lets forget about the Benitez, Whitaker or Mayweather comparisons, and he doesn't really remind me of Mosely either.....................................

At times he does remind you of Hamed with that cocky offensive, poor defensive style......................................

But he is at least 3 times the fighter Hamed was, Gamboa is faster and his defense is a little better- better head movement...................................

Joan Guzman would beat Gamboa if they fought anytime in the near future.

P.S.- A Young Mosely or Judah almost never got hit with the bombs Gamboa gets hit with, if they did it was against championship opposition not average fighters, and they both had better footwork, defense and handspeed.
