Yushin Okami to fight against Tim Boetsch at UFC 144 – UFC News
Japanese mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Yushin Okami will face American MMA fighter Tim Boetsch in February 2012. According to confirmed reports from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the UFC 144 event
is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2012 in Saitama, Japan, where these two fighters will face each other inside the UFC octagon fighting ring.
The bout is set for the middleweight division and will be featured on the preliminary card of the event. The 30-year-old Boetsch would be eyeing the bout to extend his two fight winning streak. He defeated Kendall Grove at UFC
130 in May 2011 followed by another win over Nick Ring at UFC 135 in September 2011. On the other hand, Okami had been on a three fight winning steak but lost the bout at UFC 134 against Anderson Silva in August 2011.
Ever since the UFC confirmed the bout in mid-November, the Japanese fighter has been eager to fight in front of his home crowd. Boetsch made his UFC debut in February 2008 at UFC 81 where he defeated David Health by a technical
knockout (TKO). He has contested in eight fights for the UFC in which he has won five and lost three. On the other hand, Okami made his UFC debut in August 2006 at UFC 62 where he defeated Alan Belcher. Since then he has fought in thirteen consecutive bouts
for the UFC. He won ten bouts and lost three.
Ever since the bout was announced by the UFC, Okami has been fairly excited. He would be making his return to Japan as a fighter since his last fight in June 2006. For Okami, it would be an emotional moment when he would stand
in between his own people after a lapse of nearly six years.
The CEO of UFC, Dana White said, "Undefeated since dropping down to middleweight, Tim Boetsch has verbally agreed to face top three ranked Yushin Okami February 26th in Tokyo, Japan." Both fighters would be looking forward for
a win because Japan has been famous for being the home of martial arts and it would be a privilege for both fighters to score a historic win in Japan.
