Yusuf Pathan first to have been part of two IPL-winning sides – Cricket News Update
Following the Kolkata Knight Riders’ 5-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League final played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on May 27, Indian cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815 became the first player to have been part of two
teams that have won the IPL title.
Pathan was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008 (which was captained by Aussie cricketer Shane Warne), and is also a part of the Knight Riders – the IPL 2012 champions, led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447.
He is joined in that particular distinction by teammates http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manvinder-Singh-c74304 Bisla (who played for the Deccan Chargers in 2009, when they won the title).
The 29-year-old likened the captaincy of Gambhir to Warne, saying that both skippers had supported their players a great deal.
“The way Gautam has captained in the last two years, it is comparable to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837]. He has supported the players a lot. We have played as a team. We have enjoyed each others' success,” he said.
Pathan underwent a slump in form early in the competition, for which he attracted a fair amount of criticism, prompting Gambhir to insist that the more experienced players in the squad needed to step up and live up to their reputations. However, while Pathan
did not manage to register an individual score higher than 40 throughout the tournament, he remained positive regarding his contributions, and even went on to praise his teammates who had starred in the final.
“I got to play the role in the semi-final, today Bisla (Manvinder) and Kallis (Jacques Kallis) did it,” he pointed out. “The way Bisla was in and out of the team, he did very well to score those runs.”
The burly all-rounder played a key role in his team’s victory against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils in the first qualifying match – his unbeaten 40 off 21 enabled his side to post a total of 162, and ultimately win the match by 18 runs. His performance in the final
was not of the same level, however, as he only contributed one run with the bat, and conceded 17 runs in the one over he bowled.
The Knight Riders’ owed their 5-wicket victory in the final to Bisla (89) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692 (69), both of whom teamed up for a 136-run stand, and succeeded in chasing 191 with 2 deliveries to spare. Bisla won the Player of the Match award for his spectacular
knock, and Gambhir’s side were crowned IPL 2012 champions.
