Yuuma Kosaka and Masafumi Yamaguchi capture gold medals in Men’s events - 2011 Japan Open
Yuuma Kosaka and Masafumi Yamaguchi have excelled their performances in the Men’s events on the third day of the 2011 Japan Open National Swimming Championships.
The championships is a trial basis of the nationals swimmers to prove their qualification into the Japanese swimming team for the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
The session included the preliminary rounds of the 200m Individual medley (IM), 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m back-stroke and the 200m breast-stroke.
The initial event of the session was the 200m IM, where 21-year-old Yuuma Kosaka presented a superb swim by ousting the fastest qualifying swimmer into the finals, Yuuya Horihata. Kosaka won the gold medal in a time of 1:59.12 minutes, to devastate Horihata’s
effort of 1:59.45 minutes. They were followed by Daiya Seto, who sustained his third fastest spot and earned the bronze medal in 1:59.96 minutes.
The next event was the 50m back-stroke, where 26-year-old Yamaguchi occupied the gold medal with a timing of 25.53 seconds. He was followed by Yamato Ujibayashi and Kuninori Tada, who touched the wall for silver and bronze medal, by posting a time of 25.73
and 25.95 seconds, respectively.
The arena then witnessed a remarkable swim of Kenta Ito, who dominated the 50m freestyle, by earning gold medal in a time of 22.43 seconds. Shinri Shioura and Yuuki Kawachi touched the wall in a same time of 22.74 seconds, to tie for the silver medal. Fourth
fastest spot was secured by 24-year-old Kazuhisa Hotta, who finished his swim in a time of 22.89 seconds.
After a few minutes, 25-year-old Takuro Fuji impressed the crowd in the 100m butterfly, claiming the gold medal by posting a time of 52.18 seconds. He was followed by Takeshi Matsuda and Hirofumi Ikebata who climbed the podium for the silver and bronze medals,
with timings of 52.83 and 52.90 seconds, respectively.
The last event of the session was the 200m breast-stroke, where the arena’s favourite, Kosuke Kitajima clinched the gold medal in 2:11.43 minutes. Kitajima, who failed to earn the title of the 100m event earlier at the championships, out-touched his closest
competitor, Kazuki Ohtsuka by 0.09 seconds. Ohtsuka obtained the silver medal in 2:11.52 minutes ahead of Akihiro Yamaguchi, who settled on the podium for bronze medal in 2:12.54 minutes.
The championships ended after the conclusion of all swimming events, while the arena enjoyed impressive swims of their national swimmers who secured their podium finishes.
