Yuvraj Singh disappointed after Pune’s defeat but aims to play for pride
Pune Warriors India’s (PWI’s) skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364, was disappointed after the team’s defeat against Deccan Chargers (DC) in the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday, May 16, 2011.
The team will not be able to qualify for the play-offs now, but Yuvraj claimed to play the next two games for pride.
According to Yuvraj, “We had to win all three but unfortunately nothing went our way. The batters let the team down again. No point in saying we are a better team than we looked, you have to perform. Some youngsters will get a chance and some overseas players.
Now we have to play for pride”
Pune scored 136 runs after being put into bat by the DC captain, Kumar Sangakkara. The team got off to a decent start, as the openers, Jesse Ryder and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manish-Pandey-c74183, put together 31 runs for the first wicket. However, wickets started to tumble after the
dismissal of Ryder, who managed 18 runs off 14 deliveries.
All-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974, batted sensibly in the lower order, guiding his team to a decent total. He top scored the Pune innings with 37 runs from 28 balls. His effort went in vain though, as the opposition reached the target easily in the final over
of the match.
Although DC failed to qualify for the play-offs, Sangakkara was satisfied with the all-round effort of his team in this year’s IPL. He will not be leading his franchise in their final match of the season and will be heading to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 for national duty.
The veteran, wicketkeeper batsman stated, “Another well-played game. We bowled really well. But we have to do a lot of work, be more athletic, fielding will be a key for us. Batting and bowling, skill wise, we are alright. It was a privilege playing with
the Deccan Chargers. All the local Indian boys have made a lot of difference for us.”
Deccan will play their last match against Kings X1 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 (KXP) on Saturday, May 21 and the team will be hoping to end the season on a high with a third consecutive victory.
