http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364 “ecstatic” at being selected again – Cricket News Update
Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is overjoyed at having been selected for the Indian T20 squad for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 – an event which will mark his return to cricket after a period of nearly 12 months following his diagnosis and recovery from
cancer.
“Today I've got the news that I am going to be stepping on the field again,” said Yuvraj. “I am ecstatic. I can't wait to step on the field and wave the Indian flag!”
“I heard the news on the TV,” he added. “It is as if I was being picked for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 again - that same feeling that I can't explain.”
Yuvraj credited the BCCI for their support, and the selectors for the confidence they had shown in him. He also went on to thank his friends, colleagues, medical team and trainers.
The 30-year-old’s last match for the Men In Blue was a Test against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 last year in November. He began 2011 on a high, winning the Player of the Tournament award during India’s World Cup triumph, but the victory was marred by health concerns,
including nausea, difficulties in breathing, and vomiting blood.
Later in the year, Yuvraj was diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma (a rare form of germ-cell cancer) with doctors having detected a tumour located in between his lungs. The all-rounder underwent treatment in the United States, where he went through three
sessions of chemotherapy.
Following his successful treatment, he returned to India in April this year and has been training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for the past six weeks in a bid to regain his fitness. He earmarked the T20I series against New Zealand as
an event he hoped to participate in, in order to ensure his full fitness for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20, for which he has been selected in India’s preliminary 30-man squad.
After assessing his fitness and recovery reports from the NCA, the selection committee decided to include the southpaw in India’s 15-man T20 squad for the 2-match series against the Kiwis – the first match is due to be played on September 8 in Visakhapatnam,
while the second will be played in Chennai on September 11.
“... after six weeks of training, I think I am now in good shape,” Yuvraj said, “I have another month or so to go for the World T20 so this month is going to be very crucial for me getting ready.”
