Yuvraj Singh out of Grade A BCCI contract
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) has promoted Suresh Raina to the Grade A of the contract list in the newly announced central contracts for 2010-11. However, there was bad news for Indian
left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh, who was demoted to the Grade B.
Apart from this change, the biggest piece of news was that the BCCI had also increased the pay across the Grades A and B. So, a player contracted to the Grade A will now get Rs. 10 million ($225,000) instead
of Rs. 6 million as he got previously, while the fee for a player in the Grade B was increased from Rs. 4 million to Rs. 5 million. There was no change in the salaries for the players in the Grade C, it remained at Rs. 2.5 million.
However, the BCCI has also reduced the number of contracted players from 41 as it was in the previous year to 24 for the next season. The BCCI also chucked the Grade D from the list.
There are nine Indian cricketers in the Grade A; namely Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan, apart from Raina. The Grade
B sees the entry of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600. Rohit Sharma’s consistent failures when given an opportunity to play at the international level has pushed him down to the
Grade C along with the likes of Amit Mishra, Sreesanth, Cheteshwar Pujara, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravindra-c84236 Jadeja and Vinay Kumar.
Some of the players who were earlier contracted but are no longer a part of the list are wicket-keeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dhawal-Kulkarni-c1367. Some of the others who were
a part of the Grade D have also been given the axe; http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shikhar-Dhawan-c90019 and Sudeep Tyagi also biting the dust.
