Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who is currently in the process of manoeuvring his return to cricket following his recovery from a lung tumour, played his first practice match in 8 months for the KSCA XI against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 U-19 team as they look to fit in
match practice prior to the upcoming Youth World Cup.
The game, termed “purely a practice match” by a KSCA official, was played on the outskirts of Bangalore, close to Maahadevpura, and saw Yuvraj scoring 47 run off 70 deliveries, including a fair few boundaries, and a six.
In addition to his performances with the bat, the left-arm spinner also bowled 5 overs, and fielded 30, marking his first practice game since having been diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma, a rare germ cell tumour located between his lungs.
“Finally played my first practice game after 8 months! Got 47 of 70 balls bowled 5 overs fielded 30 overs! Not bad for a start !!” Yuvraj posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
The 30-year-old played his last match for the Men In Blue against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Kolkata in November 2011, following which he was diagnosed with the tumour, and flown to the United States in late January 2012 where he underwent three sessions of chemotherapy
at the IU Simon Cancer Centre in Indianapolis.
Following his successful treatment and his subsequent return to India in April this year, the left-hander has been contemplating a return to the sport, and initially pinned down the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 this September as the tournament which would
mark his comeback to cricket.
However, he later claimed that he intended to be fully fit for the tournament, and was thus considering playing in India’s 2-match T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, scheduled directly before the World T20. The first match will be played at Visakhapatnam on
September 8, while the second is scheduled for September 11 in Chennai.
Yuvraj, who has been undergoing fitness drills at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, was included in India’s preliminary 30-man squad for the World T20 last month, marking the first time he has officially been named in the national squad for
a sporting event since having been diagnosed with the tumour.
