Yuvraj Singh puts the blame of spot-fixing on cricketers
India's middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh has claimed that cricketers should find a way to keep illegal bookmakers at bay with a body language that delivers a message, "Don't mess with me".
In an interview, Yuvraj was responding to questions about the current spot-fixing scandal embroiling the cricket world and the cricketer’s predicament in spotting dubious strangers in a crowd. Yuvraj blamed the players for such incidents saying that these
things happen when the players show welcoming attitude to the bookies.
"These things happen when you invite them," said the 28-year-old Yuvraj. "You know what kind of people are around, what they are trying to do, and I'm not saying only bookies or people like that.”
When asked about what a cricketer can do to avoid such incidents, Yuvraj spontaneously replied that whenever they meet a stranger, they should present a kind of body language conveying a message of ‘do not jumble with me or even think of saying something
bizarre to me’.
The Indian batsman said that the cricketers, during their career, meet a lot of people who either try to give them a piece of advice or want them to indulge into some bad stuff but it is always the responsibility of the player to maintain a distance and
send out the right avoiding signals. Yuvraj said that if a cricketer would do all this, nobody would ever dare to come closer to him, nobody can point a finger at him. Yuvraj said that only this is the reason that he never faced any such “vulnerable” situation
in the course of his career.
The spot-fixing controversy that Yuvraj was responding to, revolves around News of the World’s article published last month in which NOTW claimed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s new-ball pair of teenage pacer Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were allegedly paid to ball three
no-balls during the Lord’s test against England. Alongside the two pacers, test captain Salman Butt was also alleged of being involved in this entire scandal for acting as the ring leader. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed, a 35-year-old English businessman was claimed to be
the better who allegedly received 150,000 European pounds from undercover journalists from the tabloid who pretended themselves to be affiliates of a gambling cartel.
All the three alleged cricketers have been suspended from taking part in all forms of cricket and related activities by the International Cricket Council under Article 2 of the ICC Anti Corruption Code until the case is wrapped up. This is for the first
time in the history of international cricket that the ICC has used its suspension clause.
All the three players have filed appeals against the charges levelled against them that led to their suspension from all forms of cricket. Another Pakistani cricketer Wahab Riaz was also investigated by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yards on the same day when the appeal
was filed by the players at the centre of controversy.
Yuvraj said the recent spot-fixing controversy is very sad for the game as well as the already plunging state of Pakistani cricket. He said that the series between England and Pakistan was going very well and the Pakistan team had just started the fight
back by winning The Oval Test by 4 wickets that made everyone excited. However, the allegations messed up everything and tainted the entire cricketing world.
The spot-fixing scandal has already started surrounding Pakistan’s arch-rivals as there are talks about tax evasion and corruption in the Indian Premier League and that the India-Sri Lanka ODI played in December last year in which both sides scored more
than 400 each was fixed. While talking about these rumours, Yuvraj said that such statements require an element of proof. He said that if someone has evidence then he must show it but creating hype in the media was not correct.
It is important to mention that Yuvraj Singh himself is under the scanner for not paying taxes from his earnings through IPL contracts and advertisements for 2008 and 2009. It’s high time that every cricketer starts looking at his own deeds rather than blaming
each other.
