Pune Warriors have finally broken their seven-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League as they defeated Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 by five wickets in the 51st game of the tournament on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
The captain, Yuvraj Singh, expressed his disbelief on their seven successive defeats despite having a great deal of firepower in the line-up.
Put into field, Pune bowlers performed fantastically and restricted the explosive Kings’ batting line-up to a meagre total of 119.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Sharma-c83352 once again emerged as Pune’s standout bowler, returning with outstanding figures of 2 for 17 in four overs.
In the later part of the match, the Warriors overcame the target credibly in 17.1 overs. The captain took over the responsibility and helped his side in snapping the losing streak.
The classy left-hander smashed an aggressive innings of 35 runs from just 15 balls at his home town in Mohali.
Expressing his delight over the team’s victory against his former outfit, Yuvraj said, "We were looking for that win. Fortunately or unfortunately it came at my home place. When I look at my team I can`t imagine how we lost so many games with that talent.
We just haven`t clicked."
On his team’s performance against Punjab, the skipper added that the team had the energy in the field which eventually led them to restrict opposition to a paltry score.
"We had energy on the field and didn`t allow their batsmen to get away. 120 was a great bowling effort. The pitch was dry underneath and it was nice to get them to 120,” the flamboyant all-rounder added.
Yuvraj further heaped praise on Sharma for his consistent performance in the ongoing tournament. The Indian off-spinner won his second consecutive Player of the Match award.
Although, the Warriors are out of the play-off race, Yuvraj urged his players to continue with the good work in the remaining matches. He also vowed to return stronger in the next edition, saying the players have learnt the lesson from their previous mistakes
and the team will return stronger next year.
