Heaping praise on Sourav Ganguly for his fantastic knock against Deccan Chargers last night, Pune Warriors’ captain, Yuvraj Singh, has said that the former Indian skipper still has class and quality in him.
Pune Warriors thrashed Deccan by 6 wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
After electing to bat first, the Chargers posted a meagre total of 136 runs in the allotted quota of 20 overs. In response, the Warriors overcame the target convincingly with 10 balls to spare.
Ganguly, who was playing his first game in the 2011 season, emerged as Pune’s hero and led his side to victory by smashing a fabulous match-winning innings of 32 runs.
It was first time for Yuvraj to lead his former captain in the game of cricket. The Indian all-rounder, who started his international career under the leadership of Ganguly, admitted that he learnt a lot from his former skipper.
Expressing his feelings over skippering his former mentor, Yuvraj shared, "Obviously, I had never imagined this would happen (me captaining Ganguly). He has brought in so much knowledge to the dressing room, the youngsters can learn a lot from him if they
make an effort. He batted very responsibly in his first outing, he proved he still has it in him."
Ganguly, who led Kolkata based outfit in the in the last three editions, went unsold at IPL auctions earlier this year.
After getting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, the Pune franchise picked up Ganguly as his replacement, citing his international experience as an advantage for the team.
Although, the Warriors are already out of the play-off race, the Pune captain vowed that his team would come up with the good performance in the remaining matches.
"This competition is not over for us, we are a new team and hope to sign off on a high," the classy left-hander added.
Yuvraj believes that Ganguly’s inclusion has strengthened their batting line-up. Meanwhile, he hoped that former KKR skipper would continue with the good work in the upcoming games.
