Pune Warriors India’s (PWI’s) skipper, Yuvraj Singh, has still not given up hopes of making it to the play-offs in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The team will be up against Deccan Chargers (DC) in the 62nd game of the lucrative league on Monday, May 16, 2011.
According to Yuvraj, “Our fate in the league is still very much on the edge and for us the situation is rather too simple. Win all the games and then you see where you end up in terms of final equation for the play-offs. It all ends up with the equation
in terms of points, net run rate and how other results have gone.”
Commenting about his strategy in the upcoming games, Yuvraj stated, “Take one game at a time and not take much pressure by thinking of long term goals. Every big achievement is stitched with short steps and methodical effort.”
The Pune skipper further added that anything could happen in Twenty20 cricket and he will not be giving up hope.
He quoted the example of Kolkata Kinght Riders (KKR), who were having a very good time in the tournament and looked to make it to the final four easily.
However, a few bad games for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 led franchise saw the team in a struggling position. KKR will need to win a couple of more matches to ensure their top-four spot.
On the other hand, Yuvraj praised the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for making significant improvement in the tournament. He credited the West Indian dynamite, Chris Gayle, for turning things around for the franchise.
RCB were struggling in the opening few games, but an injury to fast bowler, Dirk Nannes, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Daniel Vettori-led side.
Gayle was not selected by any team in IPL during the player auctions, but an injury to the Australian pacer opened up a window of opportunity for the Jamaican.
Gayle grabbed this opportunity with both hands, smashing a brilliant ton in his very first match of IPL4, against KKR.
Yuvraj is looking for a similar turn around in the tournament for his team, but he will need a lot of luck in order to qualify for the play-offs.
