Yuvraj taunted by Sri Lankan supporters at P Sara Stadium
Yuvraj Singh’s time in cricket continues to get worse. He was taunted by drunken Sri Lankan fans at the P Sara Stadium in Colombo and after much gesticulating and ribbing, the police had to intervene on the first day of the third Test match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka.
Singh is India’s 12th man for this game and while returning back from his end-of-day exercises, he was met withchants of “We want water-boy.” Earlier, that section of the crowd had had a chorus going against Yuvraj, troubling him with, “water boy, water boy why ain't you playing?” It was also reported that some of the spectators also showed Yuvraj the middle finger which angered the player further. The taunts made fun of Singh for having been seen carrying drinks to his fellow team-mates.
The manager of the Indian cricket team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranjib-Biswal-c83999 spoke with the media after the incident and said that there was a section of the crowd which was trying to instigate Singh. He defended Singh, saying that the player was hardly at fault, and that the police had to be brought in to control the crowd. The manager also said that the Indian management will lodge a complaint against the crowd behaviour.
The CEO of the club that owns the stadium, Tony Perera said that there will be adjustments made to the ground in order to prevent any such behaviour from the crowds. However, he did add that all the fans will be allowed to come into the stadium.
The P Sara Oval has a bar within the ground called the Taverners. This bar is located within the T Murugaser Stand in the stadium, and the issue had arisen from this particular stand.
Singh's year has seen more downs than up so far. It had started with his fitness issues, and the resultant form woes and the subsequent dropping from the side for the Asia Cup. He made a comeback to the side in the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, but his injury issues kept him out of the second Test match, and it saw his replacement, Suresh Raina slam a century. This had meant that Singh lost his place in the side to Raina for the third Test match and had to carry the drinks, which resulted in this incident.
