Yuvraj’s expected to return in 10 weeks – Cricket News Update
An estimated deadline of ten weeks has been set for Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh’s recovery from cancer and his return to the field by his oncologist, Dr. Nitesh Rohatagi.
“On Wednesday Yuvraj will begin the third of his nine weeks of chemotherapy. He should be on the field by the first week of May,” said Dr. Rohatagi this Monday.
Addressing a media press conference, a panel of doctors from the Max Saket Hospital in New http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 further clarified that the disease was not, in fact lung cancer, but a rare type of tumour.
“Yuvraj is suffering from a condition called mediastinal seminoma. The germ-cell tumour is not in his lungs, it’s between both his lungs,” they said.
The tumour was first detected in October last year, when it was presumed to be benign. However, it was later revealed to be malignant, and the left-hander has been at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston, USA, for treatment since the last month.
Reports regarding the Indian cricketer’s condition are positive. His father, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yograjsingh-Bhagsingh-Bhundel-c98307, assured the public on Monday that doctors have promised to send Yuvraj back as a “new champion”, who will be “stronger than before”.
The therapists in charge of his treatment have also commented on the ace batsman’s phenomenal mental and physical strength. He has been reported to be upbeat and optimistic about his condition, playing video games, taking brisk walks and reading the autobiography
of Lance Armstrong, the Tour de France legend who overcame 3rd stage testicular cancer and went on to win the race an astonishing seven times.
However, unlike Armstrong, Yuvi’s cancer has been detected in the first stage, and is, as his doctors assure, completely curable. Head of medical oncology and haematology at Max Saket, Dr. Anupama Hooda, confirmed that this type of condition has a 95 percent
cure rate.
Dr. Rohatagi further stated that the flamboyant player has to undergo nine weeks of chemotherapy. He is due to start his third week of treatment on Wednesday, and if all goes well the Men in Blue will have their Punjabi all-rounder back for active training
by May.
