Yvon Michel: Jean Pascal’s injury was minor but the camp doctor did not give clearance – Boxing News
Yvon Michel, promoter Jean Pascal, in a recent media interaction revealed that the injury sustained by Pascal was of minor nature and the former champion did try his level best to fight it, adding that the camp doctor simply did not give the medical clearance.
Pascal, who was scheduled to make a comeback after 14 long months, seems to have a bad luck hovering over his career, as due to the recent hand injury he again needs to stay out of the ring for yet another month.
The unfortunate news came to Pascal camp as a shock, firing up the Cloud camp who has been vehemently terming the news as fake and an attempt to secure some more time.
Jean was scheduled to challenge Tavoris Cloud for his IBF light heavyweight title. The bout was originally scheduled for August 11, 2012 but due to Pascal’s inadvertent injury, just a few weeks before the engagement, has completely obliterated the whole
high-profile pay-per-view.
According to the details available, Al Bonanni, Cloud’s trainer, was the one who first revealed the news after receiving a phone call from Don King, Cloud’s promoter. The news got confirmed when Yvon tried to negotiate a new date for the bout with Showtime,
the broadcaster of the special edition.
Afterwards, in an email to ESPN, Michel finally shared the real scenario. According to Yvon, Jean received a bone bruise in his right hand. The camp doctor, Dr. Francis Fontaine after careful examination advised Jean to take some rest. Later on, during the
second examination Francis denied to give clearance to the former world champion despite several arguments put forth by agonised Pascal.
Michel wrote, “(Pascal) has tried hard to fight through it with a cortisone shot and therapy but (Tuesday) morning our doctor, Dr. Francis Fontaine, said he was not giving him medical clearance for the fight.”
While further explaining the dismal scenario, Michel commented, “Jean was in good physical condition. He has tried extremely hard to convince us to let him fight believing he could beat Cloud with one hand like he did when he beat Adrian Diaconu with a dislocated
shoulder in December 2009 (but) we were not going to let him jeopardize his career taking a fight injured.”
No further development has been reported by the media up till now. Only a new date that is October 13, 2012 is being heard which is still not finalised because of Showtime’s reservations. The bout was scheduled to take place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec,
Canada.
