Yvonne Smith acquires Women’s 100m freestyle title: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Yvonne Smith of Fsa-FS acquired gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on day four of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 21-year-old Smith smothered all struggles of her opponents in the double lap freestyle event and occupied gold medal of the 100m discipline.
With her notable start and strong strokes, she managed to reach the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 06.37 seconds.
Her immaculate effort was trailed by Cornel Loubser of NFS-NF, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.70 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Christel Kriel of MP-MP, who remained nearly thirteen seconds slower from her former finisher and settled on the finishing end for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 17.68 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Leanne Sterrenberg of WPA-WP, who remained nearly two seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 19.90 seconds for fourth position.
The 30-year-old Sterrenberg was chased by Anne Swart of MP-MP, who suffered a deficit of 2.22 seconds and completed her swim in fifth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 22.12 seconds.
The 18-year-old Swart was chased by Cornelia Fowler of KZNA-KZ, who secured sixth position of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 22.29 seconds.
The seventh position of the discipline was secured by Dot Smit of SWD-SW, who stayed almost three seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and submitted an effort of 1 minute and 25.65 seconds.
Smit was chased by Maritz Snyders of KZNA-KZ, who finished eighth in the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 19.99 seconds.
In addition, the competition will end on April 22 after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders were awarded accolades for their ruthless efforts after the session.
