Yvonne Smith captures Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two - South African LC Nationals
Yvonne Smith of Fsa-FS captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on day two of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Tuesday, April 17.
The 21-year-old Smith showed no leniency to her challengers in the two-lap breaststroke discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her praiseworthy efforts, she remained in a significant lead over her challengers throughout the discipline as she hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 32.43 seconds.
Smith was trailed by Cornelia Fowler of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly ten seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 42.99 seconds.
The 31-year-old Fowler was chased by Christelle Kriel of MP-MP, who stayed almost four seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 46.54 seconds for bronze medal.
Kriel was trailed by Leanne Sterrenberg of WPA-WP, who remained nearly seven seconds slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for fourth position by producing a time of 1 minute and 53.04 seconds.
In the meantime, Natalie Du Toit of CGA-CG stunned the aquatic crowd by occupying gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in the S1-S13 category by posting a time of 1 minute and 29.84 seconds.
Du Toit was chased by Renette Bloem of WPA-WP, who stayed almost ten seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 39.06 seconds.
The 48-year-old Bloem was trailed by Marike Naud, who secured bronze medal of the discipline by completing her swim in a time of 1 minute and 41.27 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Tezna Abrahams, who remained marginally slower and completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 41.25 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed wonderful efforts of all participants while the winners collected their medals after the session.
