Yvonne Smith pockets Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Yvonne Smith of Fsa-FS pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on sixth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 21-year-old Smith showered her expertise in the single lap breaststroke event, where she upset her challengers by winning gold medal of the discipline.
Smith outshined her challengers by occupying gold medal of the discipline with an effort of 41.98 seconds.
Smith was followed by Cornelia Fowler of KZNA-KZ, who remained nearly seven seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 48.26 seconds.
The 31-year-old Fowler was chased by Christel Kriel of MP-MP, who snared bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 48.82 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Maritz Snyders of KZNA-KZ, who finished fourth in the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 46.88 seconds.
Snyders was chased by Anne Swart of MP-MP, who proved her eligibility for fifth position of the event by posting a time of 52.68 seconds.
In the meantime, Renette Bloem of WPA-WP demonstrated her gruelling efforts in the Women’s 50m breaststroke in the Multi-Class category of S1-S13.
The 48-year-old Bloem overpowered her challengers in the single-lap breaststroke event as she hit the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 46.51 seconds.
With her impeccable swim, she faced no trouble in seizing the crown of the discipline as she outperformed her strongest challenger and her team-member, Tezna Abrahams on the finishing end.
The 16-year-old Abrahams proved her eligibility for silver medal of the event as she clocked a time of 44.00 seconds.
Her invincible effort was chased by Dimak Makgakga of CGA-CG, who stayed nearly eight seconds behind her former finisher and settled on the finishing end for bronze medal by hitting the wall with the timing of 51.99 seconds.
Furthermore, these podium finishers were awarded medals and accolades for their remarkable struggles at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the session ended after completion of all planned events.
