  1. Go for the yz250f,less maintenance.

  2. if the 4stroke blows up in the first couple weeks, which is very common for a 250f of that age to do, its gonna cost you another $1000+ to get it going again.  thats if you do the work yourself.  I would stick it out for an '05 or newer yz125 which go for about 2500 in my area.

don't buy a used 250f unless you're absolutely sure it has been maintained well and is in great condition.   they are very high strung motors and don't respond well to neglect.  they are nothing like the bulletproof air cooled xr250's etc. of yesterday

I never liked the '02-04 yz125 because they went to a 5speed vs. a 6speed for '96-'01 and 05-up.  In fact I'd rather find a nice 96-01 yz125 for $1000-1500 and use the money I saved for maintenance items and rebuilds.

  3. 2 strokes are faster

  4. well there both about the same performance bikes but the yz is lighter and snaper but the yzf is more powerful and bit more bike and you wont grow out of it too soon thay are both very nice bikes ive rode both and i liked them both it all depends on what you like  and what your useing it for. good luck!

  5. Before you purchase either bike make sure you get someone who knows bike mechanics to check the bike and test that it still has compression and hasn't got any major problems.  They can look for things like milky oil which is a sign that the head is done.  You don't want to get it home and discover that it is going to cost you heaps to fix.

You don't state what use you are going to put the bike to, but if just trail riding then a 250f is a better option for that as a 2 stroke 125cc is harder to ride for trails.

For resale value you need to keep in mind that the 2 strokes are slowly disappearing especially off of the racing grids as in many cases they have to compete against 250F's and then they are outclassed.  Honda do not make a cr125 any more and at least one of the other major brands is following suit very soon.

  6. 4 stroke. Emissions, Work, Fueling without adding oil. Go for the 4 stoke, more of a versatile bike

  7. 4 stroke all the way, the Fs can do anything a 2 stroke can, plus it easier on the wallet :)

  8. four strokes are NOT less maintenance. You must replace the oil and filter after every hour of operation. (if you can ever get the thing startd that is)

Go to your local shop and get an estimate for a 4 stroke rebuild. It costs almost as much as the entire bike.

  9. what do you plan to do? if it's just trail riding go for the 250

  10. hahaha

    richard get the 250f

most of you ppl that answered are pretty much retarded 4 strokes dont blow up in the first week you ride them you idiot.

if anythings gonna blow up in the first week its a 2 stroke.

and they are less maintenance than a 2 stroke.

    you ppl are ***** stupid.
