Hi, my kawasaki ZR550 IL4, has recently had a complete carb overhaul and all fresh fuel, fuel lines, vaccuum hoses etc. and when it starts 2 pipes get really hot and the other two are not.

Cylinders 1 + 2 are cold, while cylinder 3 + 4 are hot.

The plugs are sparking.

Anything i can try?

thanks

  1. This may sound dopey but the only time I've heard of similar symptoms was when a mate's Mini (car) was serviced badly and the ignition leads got mixed up. It's just possible 1 & 2 are swapped.

  2. -Coil failing on cylinders 1-2. Try swapping the coil over  and seeing if the problem is  still on 1-2 , if it moves to 3-4 its a coil.

-vacuum leaks on 1-2 , carbs not seated correctly,  clamps weak

-Diaphrams split- take the caps off and look for splits

    -slide is stuck

-main jet loose or carb parts incorrectly fitted.

-fuel starvation. - floats stuck.. open  drain plugs and see if fuel comes out.

-cracked HT caps or damp in them

-plugs need cleaning n checking or replacing

-It might be that the settigns on the carb are out... say blocked idle circuit- but then the bike would run on two on idle and then 4 when you open the throttle.

    - coils incorrectly connected to the bike they should be 1-3 2-4
