Za ‘Lan zealous to win John Smith’s Fair Friday Handicap
The Mark Johnston-trained bay gelding, Za ‘Lan, looks to be the strongest contender for the title of the John Smith’s Fair Friday Handicap that is going to take place at Hamilton racecourse today, July 3. The Class 6 contest is scheduled to start at 4:30
(GMT).
On the soft track of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 17 yards, the three-year-old novice runner will test his racing credentials against half a dozen competitors. If wins, he will walk away with the prize money worth £1,941.
The brilliant son of Street Sense out of Calista owns a decent track record. In his 6-race career, the talented horse has constantly maintained his presence on the podium except one race.
The Darley-bred runner started his career on February 14, 2012 and finished as a runner-up in each of his first two starts at Southwell and Lingfield.
The American horse moved forward to break his maiden in the Patricia Hill Memorial Maiden Stakes over 1 mile and 4 furlongs at Lingfield on March 2. He was 2-7 favourite for that event.
The young and momentous gelding nicely finished 3rd in the Brindley Honda Fleet Handicap again over 1 mile and 4 furlongs at Wolverhampton.
In his last outing entitled as Atr Royal Ascot Microsite Now Live Handicap (Turf), Za ‘Lan again grabbed 3rd position over 1 mile and 3 ½ furlongs.
Almost four of the gelding’s six races went down on soft courses. This auger well for him ahead of the John Smith’s Fair Friday Handicap that he wants to win at every cost.
If Za ‘Lan manages to sustain his natural stamina, he will have up to 90 percent chances to thrive in the coming contest.
However, the gelding will have to face a lot of resistance from Luctor Emergo who has won 1 of his total 9 starts so far. The Keith Dalgleish-trained bay gelding finished 4th against a dozen of rivals in his only outing at Hamilton. This was Saints
& Sinners Racenight Next Week Handicap, held on June 20, 2012.
By and large, there will be an awe-inspiring clash today. A large number of the race lovers will turn out to the venue to watch the charged action. Good luck to all the contestants.
