Zac Alexander blue rains on Andrew Schnell in semi final – Saskatoon Boast Open 2011
Top seeded Australian Zac Alexander wrapped up the semi finals as he duelled past the fourth seeded Canadian Andrew Schnell in the semi final of the PSA world tour challenger 10 Saskatoon Boast Open 2011 which is in its tenth year
and is being played at YMCA in Saskatoon, Canada.
The 22 year-old Australian thrashed his fourth seeded Canadian opponent by surviving a mid match crisis to bag an 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7 score in just fifty two minutes of the match.
The fourth seeded Canadian had decided to serve first and he bagged a few easy rallies to take a mini lead on the scoreboard. Following behind was the top seeded Australian, who hit a few drop shots which were extremely difficult
for his opponent to play and snatched the service game away from the fourth seed. The two then were caught into a fierce battle of rallying against each other and they kept bagging their respective service games.
As the score moved on levelled terms the score tied at nine points each, however, from there onwards Alexander pushed a notch higher and in doing so; he clogged two successive points to seal his victory of the opening round.
As he repeated the superb play of drives and shots, he also managed to bag the second set with a much easier win than the previous set. This time he was able to restrict his opponent to seven points in the entire set!
However, in a twist of fate, the fourth seeded Canadian after taking a beating managed to pull up his socks and took a notch higher in his service as well as return game. Although, the top seeded Australian put up a good fight,
in the later part of the game he stumbled a few rallies and was unable to make a return. This hampered him from clogging the third set and instead, the fourth seeded Canadian had stolen the game away from his opponent.
The fourth set was the deciding factor and once more the two initiated a cat and mouse chase for the first half of the game. However, with a few unforced errors from the fourth seeded player in the latter half saw the top seeded
Australian rush past his adversary and clinch the set with an 11-7 win to seal his victory.
The Australian will now be facing Egyptian born Italian Amr Ramsy Swelim in the final clash of the trophy.
