Zach Boychuk becomes 11th player to avoid arbitration by signing with Carolina Hurricanes
Canadian professional hockey player, Zach Boychuk has signed a new contract with Carolina Hurricanes. It was a one-year, two-way contract worth $625,000 for playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) and $105,000 for playing in the junior, American Hockey
League (AHL) during the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
More importantly, Zach Boychuk and Carolina Hurricanes have avoided the arbitration hearing with this deal and with it; Boychuk became the 11th out of 16 players to avoid it. There were 16 players who had decided to go to arbitration hearing on
4th of July to get their salaries determined but now, only five of them are left to sign with their teams as 11 have already been brought aboard.
One thing that Boychuk would not like is that, his salary has been decreased and almost cut to the half. He was given $1,195,833 by including potential bonuses in previous contract but now he would be given just $625,000.
But still Boychuk appeared to be happy after re-signing with Carolina Hurricanes. Though he did not talk to any media person, newspaper or TV reporter but shared his feelings by tweeting on Twitter.
The 22-year-old forward showed his happiness on re-signing with Hurricanes but seemed to have some problem with his previous number as he asked people what should be the new number for him.
He tweeted via his official twitter account, @zachboychuk,
“Happy to be back with the Canes for another year! I guess it’s time to find a new number. Any recommendations?”
He got many replies on that tweet and many of his fans and friends congratulated him. Many of them made suggestions but the one which moved him the most was from a former NHL player.
As after sometime he re-tweeted Jeff O’Neill, who is a former NHL professional who played for Carolina Hurricanes, Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs in his days. Jeff O’Neill suggested him the number 92, which Boychuk seemed happy with as he re-tweeted.
Selected 14th overall in the 2008 NHL draft, Boychuk has played 56 games in the NHL and has scored seven goals, nine assists and total of 16 points. He is also twice a gold medallist with Canadian hockey team in World Junior Championships.
