Zach Britton shines as Baltimore Orioles defeat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ starting pitcher, Zach Britton had a remarkable day with the ball as he struck-out three batters in the Orioles’ 5-4 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Oriole Park in Baltimore on April 20.
The Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter was very pleased with the performance of Britton. He said, “He obviously wasn't 100 percent tonight. You could hear him wheezing in the dugout. But I'm sure the Minnesota Twins don't want to hear it.”
Britton allowed just three runs on five hits including three earned runs and three walks in six inning pitches. The Orioles got their second win out of eight after defeating the Twins. Britton was tensed as his body was shivering but he felt relieved after
the win.
Zach expressed his feelings as, “Yeah, I am exhausted. I was hacking up I don't even know what in the dugout. I am pretty weak. My body felt really good. It's really my throat, and obviously my voice is gone. I felt pretty good, but now I am feeling worn
out.”
The three Orioles’ relievers Jim Johnson, Koji Uehara and Kevin Gregg threw perfect pitches for their saves. Only Uehara gave up one run on two hits out of these relievers.
Adam Jones hit two RBIs for the Orioles while Vladimir Guerrero and Matt Wieters, who shined in the last game, struck solo home runs. It was considered as the Guerrero’s second homer in the current Major League Baseball season. Wieters played a drive for
two runs and got six RBIs in the last two games. Jones, Wieters and Guerrero played a vital role in the Orioles’ victory.
It was unbelievable when the Orioles took a 5-1 lead in the third inning because they were at the last number in the Major League’s leading runs. The Orioles clinched the game with a continuous four runs and a pop out off Matt Tolbert.
On the other side, the Twins are having their worst season, as they were unable to score more than five runs in any game. Delmon Young and Justin Morneau were still out of the Twins’ roster due to the flu. Young missed the last two games while Morneau was
left out of the last four games. It was a miserable time for the Twins as their starter Joe Mauer was also injured.
The Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire was disappointed from his team’s performance and wanted to strengthen the bottom of their line-up. Speaking to reporters, Gardenhire said, “We haven't been swinging the bats well, but I liked the way the guys got after it.”
The Twins’ starter Nick Blackburn did not perform well as he allowed five runs on seven hits in seven inning pitches. Blackburn struck-out four batters and two homers were hit against him.
