Zach Britton shines as Baltimore Orioles hammer Toronto Blue Jays 12-0 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles hammered the Toronto Blue Jays 12-0 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, September 4 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Orioles have looked in outstanding form over the last couple of weeks. Having defeated the likes of New York Yankees, Buck Showalter and company will be feeling very confident about themselves these days.
Credit should be given to Orioles’ batting line-up that has produced several match winning performances after the All Star Break.
"We've got too many bridges to cross, too many things to do, to accomplish the goal everybody had coming out of spring training," Showalter said.
Right now the Orioles are placed second on the American League East Division standings table with 76 victories. It will be interesting if they can continue their marvellous winning streak to ease into the playoffs.
Mark Reynolds continued his excellent hitting form as he connected for a three run home-run in the fifth inning to break the deadlock and put his side on the board. Nate McLouth hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
"We're just having a good time and we're not putting pressure on ourselves," Reynolds said. "Everybody knows the situation we're in but we're just taking it day by day and having fun."
"It's a big deal, obviously, but there's a lot of games left," Reynolds said. "Us, the Yankees and the Rays are all right there. Oakland is having a good run right now. We can't take anything for granted."
Robert Andino, J.J. Hardy, Chris Davis and Reynolds continued to put pressure on the Blue Jays as they stretched the lead to 9-0 in the eighth inning.
Third baseman Manny Machado and Nick Markakis also made useful contributions with the bat as the Orioles stacked up a huge total on the board.
Starting pitcher Zach Britton produced another magical performance as he gave up just four hits in seven scoreless innings for his fifth win of the season. Relief pitcher Kevin Gregg and Zach Phillip combined to pitch two perfect innings to help Orioles
complete the shut-out.
