Zach Johnson looking to make it into the Ryder Cup Team
Just over a month is left before the Ryder Cup Teams are finalised by Europe and USA. This year’s Ryder Cup will be held in Zach Johnson’s home town, Chicago, and he is already getting calls for the tickets.
Johnson is currently on the 8th spot in the Ryder Cup standings. Meanwhile, the top-eight players get an automatic qualification for the team, rest of the four are handpicked by the Ryder Cup Captain.
Davis Love III, the Ryder Cup captain for USA, and Zach Johnson are both very good friends and neighbours. However, Johnson is not looking to count on that for his Ryder Cup selection.
"I do not dwell on it," said Johnson, who played in the Ryder Cup teams in 2006 and 2010. "I do not want to dwell on it. I try not to make it a bigger deal than it is. I have played in a couple. That is kind of my way of taking the pressure off".
Johnson knows his duties very well and he hopes to make it in the team via automatic qualification. Johnson is currently on a decent run.
With John Deere Classic about to start, he can improve his standings even better by coming up with commendable performances in the coming weeks.
Zach will be featuring in four events before the final team is announced and his selection is purely in his own hands.
"It is crunch time, no doubt about it," Johnson said. "I like the venues we are not coming up on the schedule, but that does not mean anything. You have still got to go out and play".
Just like Tiger, Johnson was also having some trouble with his short game, especially putting but his strong 2012 season has shown that he has improved on that aspect of his game.
Johnson himself said that it was his short game this season that has brought him laurels. Although he has been driving well but it was mainly his short game that always pulled him out of danger.
His win at the Crowne Plaza Invitational and a few runner-up finishes have really lit up his chances for the Ryder Cup.
