Zach Johnson pleased with his run in the Players Championship – Golf News
Zach Johnson fired a four-under par 68 in the final round of the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course to tie for the second position on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
He got off to a great start with an eagle on the second hole he played. However, a bogey on the very next hole took his score up.
Yet, he did not let his confidence shatter, and made a quick comeback on the fourth hole with a birdie.
“I got off to a really good start with an eagle on 2,” he said. “I don't know how I did that. And I gave one back again on 3 and then managed to grab it back again on 4 with a birdie”.
Later, he had to wait for seven holes for another birdie to come, as he succeeded in making a birdie putt on the 11th hole.
The birdie-bogey-birdie run starting from the 14th hole allowed him to settle for an 11-under par tournament score levelling with Martin Laird, Rickie Fowler and Ben Curtis.
Johnson looked pleased with his performance on the final day and said that it was a solid day, as he never let the bogeys disturb his overall performance.
Both the times when he made the bogeys, he returned back with the birdies to remain in contention till the end.
Apart from his own performance, he also talked about the overnight leader Kevin Na who faltered in the final round to settle for a four-over par 76.
According to Johnson, Na has improved quite much in the past few months especially when he is in struggle for bringing some changes in his swing technique.
“He played really well yesterday,” Johnson said. “...I would just say it's something he's trying to fight and trying to improve and get over, because I think he's going through some swing changes. Whatever changes he's making are pretty good, because he
had a great yesterday. I have no idea what he did today, clearly”.
Na finished tied for the seventh position with an eight-under par tournament score. In the meantime, Matt Kuchar kept on playing well and recorded a victory with a 13-under par overall score.
