Zach Johnson set to make seventh start at the Crowne Plaza Invitational – Golf News
Zach Johnson has returned to the field of his victory in 2010, the Crowne Plaza Invitational, with an aim to record another good finish at the Colonial Country Club.
It will be Johnson’s seventh start in the tournament and he looks in a good shape to record the first win of his 2012 campaign on the PGA Tour.
He has made a total of six appearances in the tournament so far and was listed among the top-10 players on the leaderboard in each of the last three editions.
In addition to that, he has managed to record three top-10 finishes in the 12 events he has played so far.
The most interesting fact about his recent performances is that he recorded two second-place finishes in the last three tournaments he played.
Therefore, he is now considered as one of the favourites to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational.
“A lot of good things going on so far,” he told the PGA Tour website. “I'm pretty consistent. I think I made every cut. That's a positive. As of late, I started to play a little better with my finishes. It's just a matter of being patient”.
“My putter is coming around nicely. I'm doing some things there that I seen great signs and great strides. Scoring is coming along with that fortunately. Ball-striking is getting there. Certainly two weeks ago it got a lot better. It's still a work in progress.
I wouldn't have it any other way,” he added.
He also said that he is improving with time and his game is getting better by the day. Moreover, he is happy to move in the right direction and with his team, which is helping him make some positive changes to his game.
According to him, the Colonial Country Club really helps him play the shots he wants, as he grew up playing golf at a nearby golf course that shares the similar playing conditions.
He also admitted that the field of the tournament will be tough this year, making the competition even harder for the participants.
Therefore, he needs to remain consistent throughout the four rounds in order to improve his best finish in the 2012 PGA Tour season.
