Zach Parise out for 3 months
Things have gone from bad to worse for the New Jersey Devils as Zach Parise, their leading scorer in each of the last three seasons, will be out of the lineup for the next three months after tearing the
meniscus in his right knee.
Parise's knee had been troubling him for much of the season before he eventually left Satuday, 30 October's game against the Los Angeles Kings with what was then called a lower body injury.
Parise underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury and had the torn meniscus repaired in the process.
In a telephone interview with the Associated Press, Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello commented about the situation.
"The good news is that the meniscus is 100 per cent intact. They didn't have to do anything to it other than stitch it. It will be a 100 percent recovery and there will be no risk of anything down the
road later and that's the most important thing."
The Devils are off to one of their worst starts in almost three decades and are currently in last place in the entire NHL. The Devils have qualified for the play-offs 20 times in the last 22 seasons, including
winning three Stanley Cups, and have become one of the NHL's most competitive franchises year after year. To see the Devils in this situation has everyone scratching their heads.
"Adversity is part of life," Lamoriello told the AP regarding the Devils' situation. "As I said earlier, it's how you handle it and what you do with it. Right now, we just have to do what we are capable
of doing. The players who are here have to step up and make the best of the opportunities they are going to get right now."
After 13 games, the Devils have only managed a league-low 20 goals. The loss of Parise will only compound their offensive troubles.
