Zach Railey believes sailing environment in 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta is different
In the only race of the Finn class on the first day of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, America’s Zach Railey was able to claim the fourth podium place of the Finn fleet standings. The American is looking forward to make an appearance in the upcoming
days of the regatta.
The opening day of 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta was not a good day for superb sailing because the fleet did not have a supportive breeze on the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters. Besides, there was no wind at all in the morning which made the
fleet wait until the afternoon.
Due to less time, the Finn sailors took part in the only race and started the regatta proceedings. The 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta Finn class winner, America’s Caleb Paine was able to claim the race victory to place himself on the top podium spot of the fleet
standings.
Railey, on the other hand, failed to improvise according to the conditions and fell to fourth place on the podium ahead of the British Finn master, Ben Ainslie. The American believes the racing environment on the Portland Harbour waters will help him in
practicing for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Speaking to the local media, Railey said, “The atmosphere is very different than last year. The selections have been made for all the classes and we know, pretty much, who is going to the Olympics.”
He added, “For the Finn class, we have all of the representatives who will be at the Olympic Games minus two competitors. It will be a very good test here at the Olympic venue to where we’re at with just under two months to go.”
