Zach Railey dominates Finn class on Day 3 of Kieler Woche 2011: ISAF World Sailing Cup
America’s Zach Railey finally grabbed the top spot with 18 points, after the third day races of Kieler Woche 2011 at Kiel in Germany. The final regatta of International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World
Sailing Cup has been a tremendous event so far.
However, Jonathan Lobert of France, who topped the Finn class in the first two days, slipped down at number two on Day 3 with 20 points, followed by Great Britain’s Edward Wright at third place with
a four-point difference at 24.
The weather conditions were slightly calmer than the typical Kiel weather as the wind blew from 12 to 17 knots across the sea, while clouds covered the waters during the day, which made the day more
thrilling to race.
Railey had a tussling competition with two Frenchman, Thomas Le Breton and Jonathan Lobert, but he managed to finish on top after a superb sail throughout the race.
While speaking to the local media after the race, Railey said, “The weather was better today with only a little bit of rain and the wind was still strong but shifty coming from the land. Today I had
a great back and forth race with both the French sailors in the first race.”
He added, “I think the lead must have changed ten times and we all finished within two boat lengths of each other. It was a great race between all of us. With the wind shifting so much the final results
in each race always came down to the end and it's been tight racing”
The overall results after the third day of the race are given below:
