Zach Railey feeling confident competing in 2012 London Olympics
Third day of the sailing competitions at the 2012 London Olympics finished with new shifts in the standing positions of Star, Laser and Laser Radial, RS:X Men and Women, Finn, 49er and Women Match Racing classes.
The proceedings of the third day began under ideal wind conditions as the winds were blowing on higher knots that let the sailors complete scheduled races on time.
The US Olympic Sailing Team is participating in all major classes and they have grabbed one of Top 10 positions in Star, laser, 49er and RS:X Men class. Former Olympic silver medallist, Zach Railey is representing US in Finn class and has not clinched a
noticeable position in the line up so far.
He started his Olympic campaign with a couple of lower finishes on 10th and 15th places which placed him on lower podium positions.
The second day of the regatta was no different than that of the first one as he again claimed two low podiums of 13 and 17. The competition was tough and he had to pull up his socks to come up with the expectations of his country.
However, the third day proceedings brought some good news for the US sailor as he grabbed a second and eighth place in the two scheduled race to move up in the standings. He is currently on 13th position and hopes for improvement in the coming
days because the event will get tougher with each passing day.
Railey said to the local media, “I was very confident the left hand was going to pay on the upwind in the first race. I had a great start at the pin, went out left with Jonas and rounded in third at the top mark. I was able to pass a boat and get a second.
I feel very good about that race.”
Overall results so far in different classes:
Women’s Match Racing, four wins, two losses, Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, Fla.), Molly Vandemoer (Stanford, Calif.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, N.Y.)

6. Star (Men’s Keelboat), Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih (both Miami, Fla.) 5, 14, 5, 3, 8, 9
9. Laser Radial, Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) 8, 5, 12, 17
36. Laser, Rob Crane (Darien, Conn.) 35, 42, 30, 28
7. 49er, Erik Storck (Huntington, N.Y.) and Trevor Moore (Naples, Fla./N. Pomfret, Vt.) 6, 10, 16, 1
