Zach Railey moves up to 7th place on Day 3 of 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta
America’s Zach Railey has moved up to seventh place at the end of Day 3 of 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta after getting a fifth and eighth place in both races of the day. He elevated himself in the standings after a superb sail on Monday,
August 8 at Weymouth Bay.
The 2008 Olympic silver medalist was 10th at the end of Day 2, as he grabbed the 26th position in third race, however, an eighth in the fourth race saved him from dropping out of the Top 10. Railey began confidently on Day 3 under heavy
offshore winds gusting from 18 to 22 knots and braved the conditions to place himself at number seven in the standings with 61 points.
While talking to the local reporters, Railey said, “I flipped over again today. The racing is so hard, and the wind is hard to predict. In the first race we had shifts back and forth from each side, and I felt pretty confident.”
He added, “In the second race I was about fifth or sixth going up second upwind, and there was a 30 degree righty and I ended up losing five or six boats and then I got picked up by a big breaking wave at the top of the second downwind and I got flipped
over and fell back a lot after that. But I had a really good third upwind and got back to eighth, so can't really complain about that.”
