Zach Railey satisfied with performance in 2012 London Olympic Games – Sailing Update
At the end of third day proceedings of the 2012 Olympic Sailing competitions in the Weymouth and Portland waters, the US Olympic Sailing Team finished on higher podium places in four classes and hoped for more improvement in the next races.
However, the luck did not favour them and the squads tumbled down in the standings in the next two days and the end of fifth day was not according to what they expected. Despite a low finish in the fifth day proceedings, the squad was still hopeful for a
successful finish of the regatta.
They restarted the voyage and gave the best of their skills to improve their ranks in different classes. Right now the squad is in Top 10 ranks in three classes. The races in some classes finished on Day 6, one of them being the Finn class which formulated
the final results.
At the end of Finn regatta, the US sailor and the former champion, Zach Railey was able to finish on 12th podium place. He managed to improve his ranking during his run in the event but failed to stay in Top 10 and at the end of Day 6 as he tumbled
down to 12th place. Despite a low finish in the regatta, Railey is quite satisfied with his performance.
He spoke to the local media, “The goal was to compete for a medal. After the first couple of races where things hadn’t gone my way, we knew we had to start taking more risk on the racecourse to give myself a chance. There are a lot of people who helped me
get here and supported me, and I’d like to thank them.”
