Zach Randolph impressed by Memphis Grizzlies draftee Josh Selby – NBA Update
Memphis Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph is one of the best post scorers and rebounders in the league and if he thinks somebody is good, there is certainly some weight behind it.
The Grizzlies star, who has vowed to take Grizzlies to an elite level in the coming years and has been very actively involved in the contract extensions of some of his team mates, is nowadays going gaga about the credentials of
Josh Selby, the draftee who will be joining him on the Memphis Grizzlies roster once the NBA lockout ends.
Randolph is adamant that Selby has the talent to make a mark on the NBA in his rookie year. A couple of years ago, Selby was considered as the next break out kid as he tore apart teams nationwide in high school. Since going to
college though, his stars fell considerably and the player was not considered a safe bet in this year’s NBA draft. The Grizzlies took the gamble though, making him the 49th overall pick.
It already looks like they have uncovered a gem.
Z-Bo knows a little about being written off and them proving the critics wrong. He has been there more than once in his career and now enjoys a reputation of being one of the best power forwards in the league. So wowed has he been
with Selby’s performances that Randolph labelled him as the steal of the draft this year.
"He's the steal of the draft," Randolph said. "The young fella is going to help us."
Such high praise coming from Randolph is not unfounded. Selby has been starring in pro-am games this summer across the country, often against NBA level opposition. He has already toured with Carmelo Anthony and also played in games
with super stars like Kevin Durant and Chris Paul.
The youngster is very pleased with his own progress, and believes playing with such great players has helped him get to the next level.
"It's a blessing to learn from guys who are where you want to be," Selby said. "I've been playing with All Stars. And they recognize talent. Players are players. If you can play a little bit then they take you under their wing."
His 42 point performance in a game in the so called “lockout” league in Vegas, where only NBA players participated, turned a lot of heads and teams who passed on him during the NBA draft must now be cursing their poor judgement.
There are a number of teams who could have done with the explosive 6-ft-3 guard, but their loss is Grizzlies gain. Memphis went past the first round of the NBA playoffs for the first time in franchise history last season, and they
are looking to go even better next time around.
The team can count on some dangerous players, such as Z-Bo, Marc Gasol and Rudy g*y, who will be coming back from an injury next season. The whole roster seems to be set to get better with experience anyway; therefore the addition
of Josh to the ranks is going to be an additional bonus for the NBA World Championship aspiring franchise.
