Zach Randolph leads Memphis Grizzlies to 104-103 win over the Dallas Mavericks
Zach Randolph made the game-winning shot in the last second, as the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 104-103 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Centre on Sunday night. The result meant that Memphis snapped Dallas’ eight-game winning streak.
The season just continues to get better for the Grizzlies, after they managed to win the series against the Mavericks for the first time in franchise history. Randolph played of his best games for the Grizzlies, as he contributed a game-high 27 points in
the victory.
Guard Mike Conley scored 17 points while center Marc Gasol chipped in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Memphis, who have won seven of their last 10 games. Shane Battier and O.J. Mayo also posted 11 points each for the Grizzlies, who are now 35-29 during
this season. Battier also had 11 rebounds for the victors.
Jason Terry did all he could as he scored a team-high 26 points for Dallas, who lost their ninth home game of the season. Dirk Nowitzki played a simple but effective game as he added 23 points and pulled down five rebounds in the losing effort.
Rodrigue Beaubois contributed 15 points while forward Shawn Marion finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have lost two of their last 10 contests.
Match Analysis
Dallas and Memphis started the game ice cold but the Mavericks got it going offensively later on, taking a 27-21 lead into the second. Dallas continued to dominate in the second quarter, as they shot 51.2 percent from the field, and managed to extend their
lead to 55-38 at the end of the first half.
Trailing by 17 points at half time, Memphis went on a 16-4 run to get themselves back into the game. The Mavericks played sloppy basketball during the third quarter, allowing Memphis to convert a 17-point deficit into a 79-78 edge, heading into the final
stanza.
Dallas Head Coach Rick Carlisle was disappointed with his side's showing in the third quarter. He said, "The whole game is the third quarter. You give up 41 points, turn it over six times, and basically don't take the challenge -- you get what you deserve.
That's really the bottom line.”
Both teams remained close throughout the fourth quarter. Battier had a reserve lay-up shot to make it a one-point game at 102-101 with just 14 seconds to go. Nowitzki then came off the bench with a jump shot to make it 103-102 for Dallas.
With just three seconds to go, Randolph contested a 17-foot jumper to seal the road victory by a single-point margin.
