Zach Randolph looking to organize workouts for the Memphis Grizzlies – NBA Update
Since the NBA is in lockout, the players are barred from using any facilities rendered by their respective franchises. What’s more, the NBA players can’t train with their coaches, so the off season workout scenario has so far been
every man for himself.
Zach Randolph though is looking to change things.
In a recent interview shooting guard Tony Allen, a teammate of Randolph’s from the Memphis Grizzlies revealed that the big guy was looking to organize team sessions soon where all the Memphis players could get together and practice.
Allen had sat down for an interview and when the reporter asked him if there were any plans for workouts, Allen responded by revealing Z-Bo’s plan.
“It’s cool you asked that because Zach just texted me and said he was trying to round the guys up and get them into one city for a good week-and-a-half or something. So I’m waiting on a call. I’m pretty sure in the next week or
so we’ll try to get together as a team to find out if we’re going over the water or we’re staying here.”
Randolph and the Grizzlies aren’t the first team to talk about team practices this offseason. Earlier Amar’e Stoudemire had revealed that he was looking to get Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the New York Knicks players together
for practices.
It still is a healthy sign for the Grizzlies and it shows that the team is very closely knit. What’s more, Zach isn’t someone regarded as much of a leader in the NBA, at least until recently. The player has found his grove with
the Grizzlies and taken over the mantle at the franchise.
Last season he produced some scintillating performances, leading the team on a record breaking playoffs run. Allen’s comments just go to show how Randolph has matured into one of the best power forwards in the league, as well as
the leader of the Grizzlies.
On another note, Tony Allen was asked by the reporter if he had any suggestions for young kids with regards to defending. Allen is a defensive specialist and regarded as one of the best defenders in the league in his position,
and otherwise. The player was also happy to share some tips for any young defender to follow,
“He just always has to be square to the ball, be able to contain the ball and be ready at all times. Help-side defence too. You need to be alert. But at this early age, I don’t think they are going to grasp it right off hand. You
need to get a lot of reps in. It takes a lot of experience to get this high-tech defensive IQ I got.”
