Zach Randolph’s home searched by police on suspicion of drug related assault – NBA Update
Every sport has certain individuals who almost always seem to make the headlines for the wrong reasons. There are some though, who you never want to see featuring in that list.
Zach Randolph, the Memphis Grizzlies big man, who took the league by storm and established himself as one of the best post scorers in the league last season, has found himself facing the law over charges of drug related assault,
carried out in the premises of his house in West Linn, Oregon.
The police were issued a search warrant to enter the premises early Sunday morning. The warrant had been issued in lieu of the drug related assault that had taken place on Saturday. Randolph was home when the detectives from the
homicide and violent crimes team searched the house.
The complaint had been lodged by a man who claimed to have been assaulted at Randolph’s home by a pool cue. He also added that multiple people were involved. Sergeant James Rhodes stated that Randolph was at home when the incident
took place; however, he did participate in the assault.
Zach has been the owner of his current home since he was a playing member of the Portland Trailblazers. He has been notorious for his scrapes with the law since he was at Portland and was instrumental in helping the Trailblazers
acquire the nickname ‘Jail Blazers’.
Some of the previous incidents involving Randolph include sucker punching a teammate at practice, pleading guilty to receiving weapons that were stolen, being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, and being implicated in an incident
involving drugs. The drugs were found in one of his cars in May 2010.
The news however does contain an element of surprise after last season’s peak performance by the Grizzlies star. He had a memorable year where he helped the Memphis Grizzlies edge past the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of
the Western Conference playoffs.
It was during that series where Zach announced that he had matured significantly over the years and was now a much more calm and experienced player. "I’ve changed as a player," Randolph said. "I’ve matured. I know the game better.
I feel like I’m getting better as a player."
In fact, he even went on to explain that he had been given a bad reputation and that things were not how they seemed. "I feel like I’ve been misunderstood," Randolph said. "People talk in this league. People who don’t know you
hear something and go with it."
The power forward had just recently signed a four year contract extension worth over $70 million, with the Memphis Grizzlies. He had an exceptional last season where he averaged 20.1 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game.
Randolph made it a common habit to earn a double-double week in week out and with the Grizzlies growing stronger by the season, he is tipped to carry them to new heights.
