Zachary Robert Guildford concludes 2011 wrapped in controversies
Zachary Robert Guildford, the World Cup Winning New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) player who plays for the Crusaders in Super 15, has had a very tough year 2011, with an even tougher start of the next year.
The Hawke's Bay player is going to serve the punishment period, which will see him missing four Super League games at the start of 2012. This is the penalty awarded by NZRU for his unacceptable tipsy behaviour during the month of November at Cook Islands.
According to the punishment, the All Black will be ousted of the Crusaders’ three preseason encounters along with the one Super League in 2012.
The player has been warned to stay away from indulging into any such activity otherwise the consequences are going to be harsher on future instances. Also, it has been advised that he needs to seek professional medical help in order to fight the prevailing
problem, which is expected to grow worse if it is dealt with negligence at this point.
Guilford’s agent, Simon Porter, explained later that the Crusaders’ player was already well-aware of the problem he was going through and had already started his counseling session.
While talking about it, Porter said, “Zac put his hand up straight away and put those measure in place himself. It wasn't like that was foisted upon him or part of the disciplinary outcome. That was something Zac wanted to do. I don't want to go into the
detail because it's private and confidential stuff, but Zac put his hand up. It's not part of the disciplinary outcome, but part of the support everyone was trying to put in place. We didn't have to work hard to do it because Zac wanted to do it.”
Porter further clarified that the NZRU asked the player to undergo the treatment as part of the disciplinary process but that seemed as if the player was not willing to do so. This was the reason why Porter felt the need for clarification, which may brush
away any cobwebs that may be piling up.
Porter lauded NZRU for their support for the 22-year-old poor behaviour. He also shared that Guildford wanted to express his gratitude to the Mental Skills Coach- Gilbert Enoka, who helped him a great deal in combating his drinking problem.
