Zachary Turk clinches Men’s 100yard freestyle gold: Day four – NCAA Division 3 Championships
Zachary Turk of KEN clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100yard freestyle on day four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, March 24.
Turk faced no trouble in snaring gold medal of the freestyle event. With his powerful strokes and impressive strategy, he dictated terms to his challengers from the start of the race and ensured his top place on the medal rostrum.
Turk devastated hopes of his opponents by occupying gold medal of the 100yard discipline with the timing of 43.16 seconds. His gold winning effort stayed 0.64 seconds ahead of his team-member, David Somers, who followed him on the victory stand for silver
medal by clocking a time of 43.80 seconds.
With his magnificent pace, Somers stayed 0.75 seconds faster from Curtis Ramsey of KEN, who settled on the finishing wall for third position by producing a time of 44.55 seconds. Tyler Harp of URED ended his swim in fourth place as he clocked a time of 44.60
seconds.
Afterwards, Christie Raleigh of ROWA acquired gold medal of the Women’s 100yard freestyle. Raleigh remained prominent for gold spot of the event from the start and completed her race in a time of 49.94 seconds.
She was followed by Kellie Pennington of SPRI, who remained 0.39 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 50.33 seconds for silver medal. Anna Dobben of EMOR completed her swim in third place as she reported 50.52 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 200yard backstroke, where Robert Barry met expectations of his supporters by earning top spot of the event in a time of 1 minute and 46.23 seconds.
He was chased by Vladislav Romanov of CSI, who won silver medal of the event by clocking 1 minute and 46.79 seconds. Similarly, Michael Brus stayed 0.13 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 46.92 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed forceful struggles of all swimmers in their respective playoffs whereas the position holders received their awards and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
