Zachary Turk wins Men’s 100yard freestyle heats: Day four – NCAA Division 3 Championships

Zachary Turk of KEN won the qualification round of Men’s 100yard freestyle on concluding day of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, March 24.
Turk remained almost one body length ahead of his strongest challenger on the finishing end of the race. With his commendable efforts, he reached the finishing wall with the timing of 43.18 seconds to qualify into the final round.
With his nerve-wrecking pace, he remained 0.83 seconds faster from his teammate, David Somers, who reached the final round as second best position holder by clocking a time of 44.01 seconds. Somers was chased by his team-member, Curtis Ramsey, who remained
0.58 seconds slower from his foregoing competitor and ended up his swim in a time of 44.59 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Women’s category, where Christie Raleigh of ROWA proved her audacity for the finest qualification spot by posting a time of 50.11 seconds.
She was followed by Kellie Pennington of SPRI, who stayed 0.29 seconds behind and submitted a time of 50.40 seconds for second position. Carolyn Geller of WILL stayed 0.25 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 50.65 seconds.
The third event of the session was Men’s 200yard backstroke, where Robert Barry of DEN earned top qualifying position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 46.58 seconds. He was chased by Michael Brus of GRIN, who stayed only 0.59 seconds slower and hit the
finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 47.17 seconds.
The third spot of the distant backstroke discipline was obtained by Barry’s team-member, Quinn Bartlett, who stayed just 0.17 seconds slower from overwhelming his former finisher and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 47.34 seconds.
Vladislav Romanov of CSI claimed fourth position of the discipline as he stayed just 0.40 seconds and posted a time of 1 minute and 47.74 seconds.
The session ended after the conclusion of all events whereas these qualifying swimmers will contest each other in the final round to secure top spot on the podium.
