Zack Cozart to be back after elbow operation – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said on Wednesday, December 14, that it is rookie Zack Cozart who stands a good chance to start as the regular short-stop in the upcoming season. But that, for sure, depends how good he effectively asserts himself
to win that coveted position.
With his disposition and the quality of play, Cozart does warrant that position, but it all depends like Dusty Baker maintained, on his health and how ‘his arms come out’.
“There's a good chance he is the guy," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said recently. "You reserve that little bit to see how his health is and how his arm comes out."
It is important to recall that Cozart recently had to undergo an operation on his left elbow, not his throwing arm. Operation was successfully performed August. He was only cleared last week to resume playing.
For his part, Cozart was certain, with a tinge of confidence, that he will be 100 percent in Spring Training. He went ahead and said that he was healthy and he hopes that the job will be his.
For the most part, the manager Dusty Baker does not think otherwise. Baker believes that Cozart is not only a player placed to bat at the top, but also go down as well. Owing to his slickness, he can be a good fielder and base-runner.
"He can bat at the top of the order or be a down in the order guy. He's a slick fielder, a good baserunner. We like what we have in him."
With reposing all the confidence in the Cozart, Baker believes it will provide the player a good start to prove his worth in the long run. The operation that Cozart had is a thing of the past and something that the team will certainly not want in the future.
With Spring Training nearing, the Reds would certainly want a good output by the player. This will surely change things up for the Reds which could not make it to the playoffs this past season, but may be able to make their way this time.
