Zack Greinke sparks as Milwaukee Brewers beat Washington Nationals, 6-4 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ starter, Zack Greinke was impressive both bat and ball as he hit a go-ahead homer and pitched seven dominant innings in the Brewers’ 6-4 victory against the Washington Nationals at Miller Park, Milwaukee on May 25.
Greinke allowed three runs on five hits with three earned runs and struck out 10 batters. He gave away just one walk on 100 pitches. Greinke stated his feelings as, “I talk about it all the time. It's more fun playing (this) way, I like it, it feels like
you're doing more in the game.”
The Brewers scored two runs and led off 2-0 in the first inning. Corey Hart and Ryan Braun both contributed two runs on the double-run shot of Prince Fielder towards the deep centre-field. The second inning went score-less for both sides. The Brewers kept
on going and extended their lead 3-0 in the third inning when Fielder hit a sacrifice bunt off left-field and Rickie Weeks scored his first run of the game.
The game was tied 3-all during the fourth inning when the Nationals’ batters accelerated the inning with three runs. Michael Morse homered (396 feet) to centre-field while Jayson Werth and Laynce Nix both singled to complete a three-run campaign. The Brewers
went ahead 4-3 in the fifth inning when Greinke hit his first homer (390 feet) of the season. The score-board was unmoved until the sixth inning.
During the seventh inning, Weeks posted his second run on the drive of Fielder to left-field and Braun moved to second base in no time. The Brewers were leading 5-3 at the end of the seventh. Both teams scored one run to move the score-card 6-4 in the eighth
inning. For the Nationals, Roger Bernadina added one run on the sacrifice fly of Nix towards left-field.
On the other side, Jonathan Lucroy scored a single run when Yuniesky Betancourt doubled to deep left-field. The Brewers’ Manager Ron Roenicke was content with the performance of his team and said, “I felt all along our team would go on a roll somewhere.
I didn't know where it would be or when it would be.”
Jason Marquis pitched six innings with an ERA of 4.26 and permitted four runs on five hits including four earned runs. He gave away four walks on 87 pitches.
