Zack Greinke talks about moving from Kansas City Royals to Milwaukee
Giving interviews to reporters is something Zack Greinke wouldn’t want to do anytime soon, but as he laid back in a small office at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, Arizona, he talked to five reporters, hailing from Milwaukee.
The ace pitcher is currently preparing for a regular season in Major League Baseball that is scheduled to kick off in April. The ball thrower spoke of his reasons that led him to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Once a member of the Kansas City Royals’ squad, the pitcher did his best to adjust himself to the previous club around the players he was familiar with.
However, as the veterans started leaving, he decided to take his leave too. He declared his intention to depart four times before the Brewers came knocking on the Royals’ door with a trade deal.
Seeing Scott Podensik, Alberto Callaspo, Kyle Farnsworth and Rick Ankiel leave the club he spent seven years with, wasn’t easy.
"When I signed, I was led to believe we were building around the guys we had, and we were getting rid of all of them", he said. "So I sort of did then. Then at the end of the year, I sort of did again. And then during the offseason, I sort of did again.
And then the media got the one where I think my agent must have said it somehow. ... So I guess I sort of did about four times".
The Royals ended up trading Greinke with Yuniesky Betancourt to the Brewers for a batch of four talented prospects on the 19th of December.
Zack had the aim to join a club that would have a winning chance on the World Series; something the Royals didn’t have in the last seven years.
"I don't know how to say it because Dayton [Moore, general manager] was good to me, the organization was really good to me and the fans have always been amazing", Greinke said.
Greinke went on to explain that the Royals have a sharp rising tide of prospects coming through the minor leagues, which is one of the leading reasons why he didn’t see himself functioning well under the current roster.
