Zack Greinke’s dominant pitching helps Milwaukee Brewers beat San Diego Padres 4-3: MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ starter, Zack Greinke, was outstanding with the bat as he struck out nine batters in the Brewers’ 4-3 win against the San Diego Padres at Miller Park in Milwaukee on May 9.
Greinke pitched six solid innings and was economical as he gave away just two runs on five hits with two earned runs. The Brewer’s relievers also performed well as they permitted just one run in combined three inning pitches.
It was considered as the first game of Greinke in his home town. He had a huge ovation from his fans due to his superb pitching performance. The Padres were outclassed in the first two innings as they did not score even a single run. The Brewers took a single
in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead from the beginning. Then Carlos Gomez, who went 1-for-4, completed a single in the second inning to extend the lead further to 2-0.
The third inning passed away without any score from both sides. Then during the fourth inning, Chase Headley doubled towards the right field position to lessen their trail 2-1. Headley had an exemplary season so far with the bat, but in the last few games,
he did not perform well for his team. He went 1-for-4 with the bat.
The Brewers led off with 3-1 in the fifth inning when Rickie Weeks hit a one-run homer against the Padres’ starter, Mat Latos. It was the seventh homer for Weeks in the current season. The Padres were score-less in the fifth inning but Jason Bartlett posted
a single run in the sixth inning to give his club some hope. He went 2-for-4 throughout his batting in the game.
In the sixth inning, Corey Hart hit a shot for two-out double and added a single run for the Brewers to take the lead 4-2. The score-card remained unmoved during the seventh inning as the batters were unable to deliver some runs on the tricky pitches. Chris
Denorfia singled off the left field and cut-off his club’s deficit to 4-3.
The Padres’ batters were stable at the end but it was too late for their team. Latos was much expensive right through the game as he threw 5 2/3 innings and permitted four runs on seven hits including four strike-outs along with two walks.
