Zacynthus deserves support in Hiscox Property Handicap at Newmarket
Zacynthus needs not to be taken lightly in Thursday’s Hiscox Property Handicap at Newmarket, especially after his classy victory for new trainer, Luca Cumani. The 4-year-old was a part of Alan McCabe’s crew until last month, when the connections decided
to take him to Cumani’s yard.
The son of Iffraaj performed poorly under the care of Mahmood Al Zarooni last year. He could not raise his game at the start of 2012, as he suffered a few terrible defeats earlier this season. After completing the order of finish at Southwell in April, the
gelding went on a vacation of more than three months.
He returned to action with new trainer and rider, and impressed everyone with a fascinating show. In the hands of Patrick Hills, Zacynthus sealed a comfortable victory in Yarmouth’s Shirley Gill Memorial Handicap at the end of last month.
He quickened well over 1f out, and was in total command inside the final furlong. An outstanding effort guided him to a cosy 2¼-length success. After such a comprehensive victory, his confidence is at a high.
The Mrs June Bownes-owned has good memories at Newmarket, as he made a winning debut here in June 2010. He seems to have revived his glory days by making a winning debut for this yard, and is expected to do an equally good job in today’s 7-furlong event.
He will be facing 10 speedy runners on Newmarket’s good to firm track. The £4,528 meeting is going to be kicked off at 15:15 GMT.
Triple Charm is another to look out for. The 4-year-old old had a very poor draw at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago, and is well handicapped on what she did the time before.
The Jeremy Noseda-trained made her seasonal debut on a high note, winning the Get Your Bet On At bluesq.com Fillies' Handicap at Lingfield. The filly has a good chance of putting her journey back on the right track.
There are many in-form runners in the line-up, but the focus will on Zacynthus and Triple Charm. The former is in better shape, and gets our vote. Good luck to all the runners.
