Zagora experienced for the Jenny Wiley Stakes
Martin S. Schwartz owned 5-year-old mare, Zagora, tried her heart out last time she ran in the Jenny Wiley Stakes, which was a grade 2 race back in 2011, but back then she wasn’t accustomed to the tracks, and the atmosphere, and the style of running in America,
but she still managed well as she turned in a game third place finish in the last year’s Jenny Wiley Stakes.
Chad C. Brown trained French bred mare, is now more experienced and more accomplished than she was back in 2011, and this time around Jenny Wiley Stakes comes with added value as the race has gone up a grade to be the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes and with
a purse of $300,000 at Keeneland’s turf course over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 14 April, 2012.
The daughter of Green Tune, out of mare Zaneton by Mtoto, Zagora has one clear advantage over rest of the field which comprises of five accomplished 4-year-old and above fillies and mare, is that she has the only one in the lineup, who has won graded stakes
race over turf.
Zagora has stayed undefeated in 2012, as she has competed in 2 races prior to the Jenny Wiley Stakes. The experienced mare stayed at Tampa Bay Downs, and downed her seasonal opener in the Grade 3 Endeavour Stakes over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 4 February,
2012.
She downed Exclusive Love in second and Keertana in third, while she covered the distance in 1 minute and 40.92 seconds.
She then got stretched out in distance, but she relished the challenge and downed the 1 1/8 mile long Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes on 10 March, 2012, defeating Federation and Unbridled Humor, who finished second and third respectively, while she covered the
distance in 1 minute and 46.97 seconds.
A grade 1 winner in 2011, Zagora at Saratoga on 30 July, 2011, bagged the Grade 1 Diana Handicap under jockey Javier Castellano at about 1 1/8 miles as she bagged the race in 1 minute and 49.19 seconds.
Zagora drew post number 2 in the Jenny Wiley Stakes, with Javier Castellano to retain the mount on her.
