Zagora will go for her third win of the season in four starts in the Gallorette Handicap
Martin S. Schwartz owned 5-year-old mare, Zagora, will be conceding from five to eight pounds to her six other rivals in the Grade 3, $150,000 Gallorette Handicap, when she carries 121 pounds along with jockey Javier Castellano.
The duo will break from post number 3 for trainer Chad Brown, and will be sent with the odds of 8 to 5.
The Gallorette Handicap will cover a distance of 1 1/16 miles over the Pimlico Race Course’s turf track on 19 May, 2012, and the race will be exclusive for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares.
The Highly regarded daughter of Green Tune, will try to add the Gallorette Handicap to her already impressive resume, and the favourite tag at the morning line will help her do it.
Zagora came to the United States in 2010, and she was a Group 3 winner in France, her native land. Bred in France by E. Puerari and Oceanic Bloodstock, it took Zagora four starts to down her first in the United States.
It was the Grade 1 Diana Handicap over the Saratoga’s turf course on 30 July, 2011. Going over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, Zagora defeated the likes of Aruna in second and Bay to Bay in third, while she covered the 1 1/8 mile distance in 1 minute and 49.19 seconds.
In those four starts prior to the win at Saratoga, Zagora was consistently finishing on the board, as she finished second in her United States debut race, the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
Finished second again in the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes, third in the Grade 2 Jenny Wiley Stakes and second again in the Grade 2 New York Stakes.
Zagora this season has been phenomenal as well, she notched her first two starts of the season, starting with a win in the Grade 3 Endeavour Stakes and then downed the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes, a race that she missed last year by finishing a whisker adrift of the winner, Denomination, in second.
Out of Mtoto mare Zaneton, Zagora is exiting a fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes.
