Zahed Mohamed duels past Ammar Al-Tamimi in semi final – Al Hassan Open 2011
19 year-old Egyptian Zahed Mohamed survived a mid match crisis against 23 year-old Kuwaiti Ammar Al-Tamimi in the semi final of the Al Hassan Open 2011.
The two took up the gauntlet in Jordan, Amman at the Al-Hassan International Squash Center and the higher ranked Egyptian saw a tad difficulty in outfoxing the lower ranked Kuwaiti. Nonetheless, he managed to do so with a score
of 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9.
The first round of the match was commenced by Mohamed as he was able to win the toss and both the players were holding a superb rally, matching an eye for an eye. The last time the two were able to tie the score was at nine points
each. However, Mohamed then utilized the variation method so that his opponent was unable to guess his ball placing and left Al-Tamimi empty handed by clogging the opening round.
During the second set the two once more entangled themselves into a cat and mouse chase. As they matched a blow for a blow, the scores kept tied well into set and once more the young and energetic Egyptian managed to squander two
successive games to secure the second set. All he needed now was the last set and thus had taken the competitive edge against his opposition.
In a reversal of fate, the 23 year-old Kuwaiti started the game with a strong beginning and skilfully managed to hold his service game. As the two constantly battled shots, the older Kuwaiti slipped but quickly recovered as he
benefited from a break in the third game by utilizing the Drive shot to push the ball tighter into the back corner, he made it impossible for his opponent to dig out a return.
Ultimately, the match went into a fourth set. This was the final deciding factor as to who would win the match. As the two got into a goose chase, the scores kept advancing on even terms. Nonetheless, the young Egyptian managed
to secure his victory of the set and the match.
He will now be facing compatriot Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry in the final clash for the title.
