Zaheer Abbas bats for Younis Khan
Former Pakistani captain and one of the best batsmen of his era, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Abbas-c98435 has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board to appoint prolific Test batsman, Younis Khan as the Test captain of the national team as soon as possible.
The man known as the Asian Bradman feels that Younis has the pedigree to lead Pakistan out of the trouble that engulfs them in the face of the spot fixing scandal that broke out during the tour of England.
Pakistan lost the Test and ODI series besides the two match T20 series to cap off an abysmal tour, which would be best remembered, for the off-field trouble and a plethora of controversies.
Zaheer added that Salman Butt was not a certainty to captain the team as he was one of the central figures in the spot fixing controversy and currently is suspended from international cricket, hence Younis was the best choice for the
PCB.
"With the future of Salman Butt as captain and player now uncertain because of the spot-fixing scandal, the best choice to lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is Younis Khan”.
"The board should not waste any more time in appointing Younis as the Test team captain because he is the ideal man to lead the team after the controversial tour to England".
The temperamental Younis led Pakistan before, most notably to victory in the 2009 World Twenty20 and the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy the same year.
In his first Test as captain Younis Khan scored a brilliant triple hundred in the first Test of the ill-fated series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the national stadium in Karachi.
The next match of the series was cut short by a brutal terror attack on the tourists outside the Qaddafi stadium in Lahore.
After the success in England and South Africa his captaincy ran out of steam and he was forced to step down before the tours of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, over differences with team-mates.
The right-hander was also banned as a part of the massive disciplinary action undertaken by the PCB in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2010, which followed one of the darkest tours ever undertaken by Pakistan where they lost all nine international matches.
Younis was not included in the team for the Test matches but featured in the ODI series where he failed to make an impression as the limp men in green went down 5-0.
After a few months the ban on the Mardan born cricketer was overturned on appeal, yet the PCB did not give him clearance for selection, on grounds of having made "inappropriate comments" following the penalty. He was also under flak
for leaking a video of the disciplinary proceedings that made a big impact on Pakistani electronic media.
Meanwhile, Zaheer feels that despite the troubles Younis Khan can make the difference and help shore up the brittle Pakistani middle-order.
"Whatever problem there is between Younis and the board it needs to be sorted out quickly", Abbas said. "Younis must meet with the board Chairman and also make himself available for Pakistan again … The forthcoming series [against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in UAE] is going to be a tough task and the board must have the best man leading the Test team".
"Pakistan will require his experience in the World Cup. The tournament is not far away and I don't think we now have time or room for experimenting with new players".
The World Cup is set to take place in the Indian sub-continent and the 1992 champions would have to play out of their skins if they are to make an impact in a tournament where they failed miserably the last two times.
